La Masseria Del Borgo Primitivo Manduria
This Puglia red is stocked full of dark berries – think blackcurrants and black cherries, richly delivered right through to a very long finish. It really is rich, not a million miles away from some Tawny Ports, but it’s so satisfying and delicious.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13.5%
Find here: £11 (usually £12.50)
Santodeno Sangiovese Appassimento
The Sangiovese grapes used here are hand-picked and slow-dried, creating a fabulous easy-drinking, jammy richness. Blackberry, vanilla and cherry intertwine, but there’s enough acidity slicing through too, making it a wonderful companion for heavier Italian dishes.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 14%
Find here: £9 (usually £11)
Piccini Memoro
You may already know this Italian red because it has established itself as a bargain amongst the UK supermarkets… and even more so at this price. It balances full-bodied plum, black cherry and vanilla with warm oak and subtle tobacco but retains a lightness too somehow. A cosy, loveable winter wine if ever there was one.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13.5%
Find here: £7.25 (usually £8.75)
Apothic Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine
Cabernet and Zinfandel combine in this American red, plush with up-front dark fruits, and good oaky structure. The texture is probably what stands out most in this wine because the smoothness is absolutely to die for. So moreish.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13.5%
Find here: £9 (usually £10.50)
Sainsbury’s White Wine Discounts January 2024
Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
We love shouting about this Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc because it completely deserves it. The pretty label pops on the shelf, and the liquid inside pops even more. It’s bright and bold, with tropical passionfruit, mango and kiwi at the fore, bitter grapefruit tang, and a lovely minerality. Just incredible for under a tenna.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 12.5%
Find here: £9 (usually £11.50)
Rocca Murer Pinot Grigio Trentino
This straw-coloured Trentino beauty brings a mineral lightness to its fruit of peach and apples, and a crispness throughout every sip. Accompanied by the undertones of citrus and grassy tones, we recommend it with food such as shellfish, mushrooms or mellow vegetarian dishes.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 12.5%
Find here: £7 (usually £8.25)
Diablo Golden Chardonnay Chile
This a distinctive and seductive Chilean Chardonnay that’s well worth picking up. You can expect tasteful balance, with buttery creamy notes, tropical passion fruit and pineapple, as well as little touches of smoke and stone towards the end. The flavours are unexpected, but it’s delivered delicately and supremely well put together.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13.5%
Find here: £9 (usually £10.50)
Sturmwolken Riesling
The fresh, zesty lime stands out in this vibrant off dry Riesling. Sweetness is swept away by bright lemon, grapefruit tang and minerally stone fruit. It will hold its flavour against spicy foods, but also holds off the acidity just enough to remain enjoyable flying solo. Yummy.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 11%
Find here: £7 (usually £8)
Sainsbury’s Rosé Discounts January 2024
Rocca Murer Pinot Grigio Rosato
For breezy midweek drinking, this Rocca Murer Rosé delivers exactly what’s required and more. The seductive bouquet blossoms into sunny peach sweetness alongside crunchy red apple. As is vital when it comes to the pink stuff, the tang and sweetness is poised to precision.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 12.5%
Find here: £7 (usually £8.25)
La Terrasse Rosé Pays d'Oc
The legendary wine wizard Jean-Claude Mas nursed this pale pink gem to the bottle, and every sip tastes masterfully made. The rich strawberry is luscious, the pear and apple are crisp, and the faintest waft of lemon peel provides a zesty nudge. If you like your Rosé delicate and refreshing, then you’ll fall in love with this.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13%
Find here: £9 (usually £10.50)
Sainsbury’s Rosé Wine Discounts January 2024
Silver Moki Sauvignon Blush
A bit different, this is a Rosé interpretation of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. As you might expect, it retains the fresh crispness of white wine and great citric bite. But then comes silky, lush floral strawberry and ripe peach. Admittedly, they’re subtler than they are in most Rosé, but the zesty balance struck up is magical, and it feels like it should be way pricier (but don’t tell Sainsbury’s!)
Size: 750ml
ABV: 12.5%
Find here: £7 (usually £8.25)
Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Île-de-Beauté Rosé
Four grapes (Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Grenache, Vermentinu and Syrah) layer up this Corsica Rosé, that comes out towards the dryer end of the pink spectrum. The delicate bouquet on the nose blossoms into ripe currants and berries, with a touch of soft peach, and all before some warm pink pepper on the finish. If you’re a red or white drinker usually, then this may well win you over.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 12%
Find here: £9 (usually £10.50)
*UPDATED - JANUARY 10TH 2024*
Sainsbury’s Red Wine Discounts January 2024
Feuerheerd's Anchor Wine Reserva Douro DOC
This deep Portuguese red makes great use of the Douro region surrounding it by finishing in Vintage Port barrels for 12 months. The result is refined spice and elegant black fruits, as well as a lingering, velvety finish. For £10, there are few reds better at remaining nuanced but also bold and imposing.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 14%
Find here: £10 (usually £11.50)
Diablo Dark Red
Despite the devilish bottle, this is heaven in a bottle. It’s one of those wines that is memorable from the off, plush with ocean deep fruity flavours – think damson, cherry, and blackberry. The hints of dark chocolate and oaky vanilla add a lusciousness, and it’s totally understandable why this Chilean beauty is rated so highly. Compulsory purchase at this price.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13.5%
Find here: £9 (usually £10.50)
Carnivor Zinfandel
Carnivor is everything you want from Zinfandel, and as you will have guessed, the perfect meaty accompaniment. Lodi, California has built a reputation for hard hitting, well-structured Zinfandel styles, and this delivers on that. Sumptuously rich cherry and blackberry jam floods the mouth for an indulgent red that will stun on the dinner table.

ABV: 14%

Journey's End Spekboom Syrah
Not only do they make cracking wine, but Journey’s End have also been busy planting Spekboom, or Elephant Bush because of its incredible CO2 absorption rate. But, back to the bottle, which is punching well above the price point. Velvety tannins and spiced dark fruits stand out from this Syrah, but there’s also a savoury side to discover, with black olives and smoky oak. Mightily impressive.

Freixenet Pinot Grigio
Hailing from the glorious vineyards of Garda, this is a proper sip of Italian sunshine. Each sip is soothing, crisp and dry, with delicate fruity hints of pear, citrus and apple playing off one another, as well as aromatic honey florality. Top notch Pinot.

Elia Cotes de Gascogne
A wonderful expression of Plaimont’s signature Colombard grape Elisa is all about vibrancy and aroma. Imagine a great New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with those tropical touches and crisp orchard fruits, but also grassy, floral notes. Light, fresh and loveable.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 9%

PepperBox Chardonnay
This is a big Aussie beauty, delivering a hug of buttery vanilla alongside loftier tropical mango and apricot notes. It isn’t too oaky and needs to be served chilled – then it’s a dream. It can’t be faulted with this price tag.
Size: 750ml
ABV: 13%

Sainsbury's Coolwater Bay Marlborough Sauvignon, Taste the Difference
How about this for a reliable weekly Marlborough Sauvignon? The zest comes through in a big, delicious way, as do hints of melon, lychee, and citrus. The freshness is eyebrow raising, but there’s balance with herby undertones and mineral notes to round it off. It would sing with seafood for sure.
